Foundation of New BJP Office Laid in Nagpur; Fadnavis Contributes ₹5 Lakh

Nagpur, April 6 — Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday hailed the remarkable rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), attributing its growth into the world's largest political party to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ideological groundwork laid by party stalwarts like Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Fadnavis was speaking at a special ceremony in Nagpur, where Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for the BJP’s new office.

“This feels like we are laying the foundation stone of our own home,” Fadnavis remarked during the event. He also announced a personal contribution of ₹5 lakh towards the construction and urged party workers to support the initiative according to their capabilities.

From Two Seats in 1984 to Global Leadership

The BJP was officially founded on April 6, 1980, following the disbandment of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which had earlier merged with other opposition groups to form the Janata Party post-Emergency in 1977.

The party's electoral debut in the 1984 Lok Sabha elections saw it secure just two seats, a modest beginning that contrasted sharply with its rapid ascent in the decades that followed. Under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani, the BJP first came to power in the 1990s as the head of a coalition government.

The turning point, however, came in 2014, when the BJP secured a clear majority in the Lok Sabha under Narendra Modi’s leadership, marking its first standalone victory at the Centre. The party has retained power ever since.

Ideological Legacy and Organizational Strength

Fadnavis emphasized that the BJP’s rise wasn't merely political but deeply ideological, rooted in the vision of leaders like Mookerjee, Upadhyaya, and Vajpayee. Their principles, he said, continue to shape the party's direction even today.

The new BJP office in Nagpur, a city considered a political and ideological hub for the party, symbolizes both its grassroots strength and its continued expansion.
