Security Heightened in Jaisalmer, Barmer After Pakistan Allegedly Violates Military Understanding
Jaipur, May 11 — A fresh blackout was enforced in Rajasthan’s border districts of Jaisalmer and Barmer on Sunday night following suspected drone sightings, just a day after India and Pakistan reached an understanding to halt all military actions. The precautionary measure was implemented amid renewed tensions sparked by alleged violations from across the border.
The blackout began at 7:30 pm in Jaisalmer and at 8 pm in Barmer. Local residents reported spotting red lights in the sky, presumed to be drones, though officials have yet to confirm these sightings.
Security forces remain on high alert in the region. The blackout followed Saturday night’s imposition, which was in response to previous reports of drone activity and explosions in several border areas, including Jaisalmer and Barmer.
Despite the overnight concerns, normalcy appeared to return during the day on Sunday. Markets reopened and activities resumed in both towns. The North Western Railway (NWR) restored services of 16 previously cancelled and 11 partially-cancelled trains that had been suspended amid the escalating tensions.
