Muzaffarnagar, May 11 — The bodies of a 35-year-old man and his two-year-old niece, both victims of Pakistani shelling in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, were brought back to their native village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday for burial.
Family members confirmed that Mohammad Sahib and his niece Ayesha were killed in the shelling incident on Saturday. Their mortal remains arrived in Khai Khedi village, where a large number of villagers and relatives gathered to pay their last respects.
Circle Officer (Sadar) Devwrat Bajpai said that, according to local accounts, the two bodies were buried at the village graveyard after being brought back from Rajouri.
Shahzad, the village head, stated that the family had been working in Rajouri for years, primarily engaged in painting jobs.
Earlier reports from Jammu and Kashmir authorities confirmed that five individuals, including a senior administrative officer, lost their lives and several others were injured due to intense shelling by Pakistani forces across the Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu districts in the early hours of Saturday.
