Kolkata, Feb 5 (PTI) – A police guard was found dead from a gunshot wound to his forehead inside the City Civil Court premises in the Dalhousie area on Wednesday morning, police confirmed.
Authorities are investigating the incident, which is suspected to be a case of suicide.
According to a senior police official, the guard's body was discovered at approximately 7 AM on a chair near the ground floor staircase of the City Civil Court building. The officer noted that the guard had sustained a bullet injury to the forehead.
"It appears that the guard may have shot himself with his 9mm service pistol, which was found beside him," the official stated.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a case has been registered at the Hare Street Police Station. The Kolkata Police's detective department has launched a detailed investigation into the matter.
