Barrackpore (WB), Feb 3 (PTI) – A second-year student of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Ivy Prasad, was found hanging in her quarters in Kamarhati ESI Hospital, where her mother works as a doctor, police said on Monday.
Authorities registered an unnatural death case at Kamarhati police station, under the Barrackpore police commissionerate, and have launched a probe into the incident.
According to officials, Ivy’s body was discovered on Thursday after she failed to respond to phone calls from her mother. The following day, a post-mortem examination was conducted at the state-run Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital.
This tragic incident comes months after the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 last year, which had sparked mass protests and demands for improved security in medical institutions.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ivy Prasad’s death.
