Bollywood Mourns the Passing of Veteran Actor Manoj Kumar at 87

Mumbai, April 5 – The Hindi film industry bid a solemn farewell to legendary actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, who passed away on Friday at the age of 87 due to age-related complications. Family, friends, and prominent figures from Bollywood gathered at his Mumbai residence on Saturday to pay their last respects.

Final Journey Marked with Honor​

The late actor’s mortal remains were kept at his residence, where a poignant photo from his youth was placed at the entrance, allowing well-wishers to offer tributes. Around 10:30 a.m., an ambulance adorned with tricolour flowerscarried his body to Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu, where the funeral was held.

Veteran personalities like Ashoke Pandit, Prem Chopra, Dharmendra, and filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar, Farah Khan, and Sajid Khan were among the many who visited Kumar’s residence to express their condolences.

A Cinematic Icon of Patriotism​

Widely celebrated as ‘Bharat Kumar’, Manoj Kumar etched his name in Indian cinema through a series of iconic patriotic films. His impactful performances in classics like Shaheed, Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, and Roti, Kapda aur Makaan resonated deeply with audiences and earned him national admiration.

From Partition Survivor to Silver Screen Legend​

Born Harikrishan Goswami in Abbottabad (now in Pakistan) in undivided India, Kumar's life was shaped by the Partition of 1947, which led his family to migrate to Delhi. He graduated from Delhi University’s Hindu Collegebefore relocating to Mumbai to chase his cinematic dreams.

Over the decades, Manoj Kumar built an illustrious filmography, with standout roles in films such as Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Patthar Ke Sanam, Hariyali Aur Raasta, and the epic historical drama Kranti.

Remembering a National Treasure​

Manoj Kumar is survived by his wife Shashi and two sons. As Bollywood mourns the loss of one of its most cherished icons, his contributions to Indian cinema and patriotic storytelling remain timeless.
