Indore, May 10 – A bomb threat targeting the Holkar Stadium in Indore caused a major security scare on Friday after an anonymous email warned of an attack in retaliation to Operation Sindoor, the recent Indian military action. However, police later confirmed the threat to be a hoax, following an extensive five-hour search of the premises.
Email Threat Cites ‘Operation Sindoor’
The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) received a threatening message on its official email ID. Written in English, the mail warned of a bomb blast at the stadium, allegedly as an act of retribution for Operation Sindoor, a high-profile military initiative recently undertaken by Indian armed forces.“MPCA's official email received a threatening message mentioning the stadium would be blasted due to Operation Sindoor,” said Jitendra Singh Yadav, in-charge of Tukoganj police station.
Bomb Squad Declares Premises Safe
Upon receiving the alert, the MPCA informed police authorities, following which four police teams and a bomb squad were dispatched to the stadium. A detailed search operation lasted nearly five hours.“No suspicious object was found at Holkar Stadium,” Yadav confirmed, adding that the entire stadium premises were thoroughly inspected and cleared.
Investigation Underway to Trace Email Origin
The police, along with the cyber squad, have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the hoax email. According to initial assessments, the message appears to be a “copy-paste” prank aimed at creating panic.Authorities are also exploring links to a recent surge in similar threats. In the past few months, Indore has witnessed multiple false bomb threats targeting the city’s airport, banks, hospitals, and schools. An accused has already been arrested in one such case, police said.
