Bomb Threat at Kolkata's Indian Museum Sparks Security Scare, Search Operation Underway

KOLKATA — A bomb threat at the Indian Museum in Kolkata on Tuesday, April 1, prompted an immediate security lockdown and a full-scale search operation by authorities.

Email Threat Triggers Emergency Response

The alert was raised after the museum authorities received an email warning that bombs would be planted in the premises on Tuesday. Although the message did not specify the exact location, it was enough to trigger concern among security agencies.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which oversees the museum’s security, swiftly informed the New Market police station. In response, a comprehensive search operation was launched across the premises.

Museum Closed, Search in Progress

As a precautionary measure, the Indian Museum was shut down to visitors pending clearance from the police. Officials stated that over 51 rooms inside the historic museum are being thoroughly searched by security personnel.

“So far, no suspicious object has been found,” confirmed a police officer involved in the operation.

Area Cordoned Off, Public Reacts

Authorities have cordoned off the footpath along Jawaharlal Nehru Road in front of the museum using guardrails. This has drawn attention from onlookers, with many speculating whether the threat could be an April Fool’s Day prank.

Despite attempts, several calls to the museum director went unanswered, and further details are awaited from officials managing the site.

Security remains on high alert as the search continues.
