Chandigarh, February 27: Arjuna awardee and former world champion boxer Saweety Boora has filed an FIR against her husband, Asiad bronze-winning kabaddi player Deepak Hooda, accusing him and his family of harassing her for dowry. The complaint, lodged in Hisar, Haryana, alleges physical assault and monetary demands.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2022, are now embroiled in a legal dispute. The FIR, dated February 25, was filed at the women’s police station in Hisar, confirmed SHO Seema on Thursday.

Police Summons Ignored

Authorities have issued multiple notices to Hooda, but he has not responded. "We gave him notice two to three times, but he did not turn up," the SHO stated.

Responding to the allegations, Hooda claimed his health has deteriorated due to trauma and requested more time. “I have submitted a medical certificate and asked for a later date. I will certainly visit the police station but won’t make negative comments against my wife. I have not been allowed to meet her,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Boora has chosen not to comment on the matter.

Luxury Car and Monetary Demands Alleged

According to the police, demands for a luxury car were made and fulfilled, yet Hooda allegedly continued to physically assault Boora and pressure her for more money.

The case has been registered under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses cruelty by a husband or his relatives.

Hooda’s Political & Sports Background

Apart from his sporting achievements, Hooda contested the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Meham constituency in Rohtak but was unsuccessful. He was also part of the Indian kabaddi team that won gold at the 2016 South Asian Games and bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. Hooda has also competed in the Pro Kabaddi League.

The case is currently under investigation, and authorities are expected to take further action.
