In a significant drug seizure at Mumbai International Airport, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended a Brazilian woman attempting to smuggle cocaine valued at Rs 10.96 crore by swallowing drug-filled capsules.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, DRI officials intercepted the accused upon her arrival from São Paulo, Brazil. During initial questioning, the woman confessed to having swallowed several capsules containing narcotics, aiming to illegally bring them into India.
Subsequently, she was admitted to a government hospital, where medical intervention led to the recovery of 100 cocaine-filled capsules. The drugs weighed approximately 1,096 grams, holding a street value estimated at Rs 10.96 crore.
Following the seizure, the woman was formally arrested under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The DRI continues to strengthen surveillance at airports to combat international drug smuggling networks.
