Patna, February 11 A criminal wanted in at least 20 cases was arrested after a brief exchange of fire in the Alamganj area of Patna in the early hours of Wednesday, officials said.

The arrested individual, identified as Rajeev Kumar alias Surya, is wanted in connection with several cases related to the Arms Act, robbery, dacoity, and extortion.

Speaking to reporters, Parichay Kumar, SP (East), Patna, said that the incident occurred near Gaighat, within the jurisdiction of the Alamganj police station.

"We received information that Rajeev Kumar, who was wanted in around 20 cases related to the Arms Act, robbery, dacoity, and extortion, was hiding at a location near Gaighat. A joint team of the district police and the Special Task Force (STF) was formed, and a trap was laid," he said.

Upon noticing the police, Kumar opened fire. Security forces responded with controlled firing and apprehended him, the SP added.

"Kumar sustained a bullet injury in his leg. He is currently receiving treatment at a government hospital," the SP said, adding that a fresh case has been registered against him, and further investigation is ongoing.
