Kolkata, February 14 England captain Harry Brook expressed relief after his team bounced back from a defeat to beat Scotland, but added that the two-time World Cup winners have yet to play their best cricket in the tournament.
Having lost to the West Indies earlier, England secured a comfortable five-wicket victory over Scotland. Adil Rashid (3/36) and Liam Dawson (2/34) helped England restrict Scotland to 152 in 19.4 overs, which they chased down with 10 balls to spare.
Tom Banton scored an unbeaten 63.
"Just glad we got over the line. Absolutely, we were thrilled. They (Scotland) bowled well against the spinners in their initial spells, but we responded really well," Brook said at the post-match presentation.
"We haven't quite had the perfect game yet; things have been a bit inconsistent. Hopefully, we can play our best against Italy and bring some joy back home," he added.
England will play Italy on Monday in Kolkata.
"We haven't fully utilized our strengths so far. Hopefully, that will come. We don't want to rush things, but we need to get through the group stage. Hopefully, Italy will be the start of our success."
Brook praised Banton and pacer Jofra Archer, who also bowled well, taking 2/24 in his four overs.
"He (Banton) was fantastic; he has settled in really well at No. 4 and targeted the spinners. He played really well. Archer was hitting length perfectly and bowling with pace, which was great to see," Brook said.
"I always have confidence. I knew it would be a decent pitch. With the outfield, we didn't need to take too many risks. When there's a good length to hit, we should hit it. Sam's (Curran) cameo was also very good to see," he added.
Banton, who was named the Player of the Match, said that a team needs to keep coming back after setbacks in the shortest format.
"(We had a) tough game against the West Indies. Full credit to them. Our focus was on tonight and then on Italy. T20 cricket is a high-risk game; you have to keep believing in yourself. Sometimes, it goes against you. You have to keep coming back," he said.
"When I watch cricket in India, it seems like absolute chaos, but there was some spin and a bit of hold (in Mumbai). It was nice to get some spin tonight."
"I like to sweep and reverse sweep, but my plan was to go as straight as possible. When they miss the length, I planned to put it away. It's different when your match-up comes on; you have to take advantage of it. The situation dictates how you bat. Today, I gave myself a chance and then caught up later," he added.
Scotland captain Richie Berrington said that the team's plan was slightly off in the middle overs.
"I thought it was a really good surface to bat on. The difference was in the partnerships through the middle. We fought back really well. We needed one of me or Brucie (Tom Bruce) to go on. We knew spin would be key through the middle, but our execution was slightly off. We didn't quite click in that phase," Berrington said.
"The whole bowling effort was really good. I'm proud of the fight we showed. Just a few more runs would have been nice," he added.
