Balasore (Odisha), May 10 – In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Balasore Police arrested two individuals and seized brown sugar valued at ₹22 lakh from their possession on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a targeted raid in the Aradbazar area of Balasore town. During the operation, they confiscated 228 grams of brown sugar, Balasore Superintendent of Police Raj Prasad confirmed.
Initial interrogation revealed that the duo had been operating a joint narcotics trade and allegedly sourced the contraband from Murshidabad, West Bengal.
The seizure was conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate. Additionally, unaccounted cash amounting to ₹18,000 was also recovered from the accused, further strengthening suspicions of their involvement in illegal activities.
Both individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and are currently under judicial custody as investigations continue.
Authorities have intensified surveillance in the region amid rising concerns over cross-border drug trafficking networks.
