Hyderabad, April 2 – The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced its decision to oppose the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in its current form when it is tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao confirmed on Wednesday that the party will raise its objections to specific provisions in the Bill during the debate in the Upper House.

“We don’t have members in Lok Sabha. We have taken a decision to oppose the Bill in the current form. And we want arguments to be heard, because there are four or five sections within the Bill which we have objections to,” said Rama Rao.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is slated for discussion and passage in the Lok Sabha today before it moves to the Rajya Sabha, where the BRS has four members.

Though the BRS lacks representation in the Lok Sabha, the party aims to make its stance clear in the Rajya Sabha deliberations.

The Bill has sparked debates across political circles due to certain contentious clauses. BRS has not disclosed the specific sections it finds problematic, but has emphasized its intent to ensure a detailed discussion on the matter.
