Guwahati, May 10 — Amid concerns over instability in neighbouring Bangladesh, Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) Eastern Command, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, commenced a strategic review of operational readiness along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam and West Bengal.

Aggarwal is on a three-day visit, starting Friday, to key locations under the Guwahati Frontier. These include the sensitive border areas of Dhubri district in Assam and Cooch Behar in West Bengal.

Focus on Cross-Border Challenges and Infiltration

During his visit to sector headquarters in Gopalpur (Cooch Behar) and Dhubri, the ADG received comprehensive briefings from Inspector General Sukhdev Raj and field commanders. The discussions centered on the evolving security challenges, especially those arising from unrest in Bangladesh and developments along the Indo-Pakistan border.

According to a statement from the BSF Guwahati Frontier headquarters, the high-level briefing addressed strategies to curb infiltration, combat trans-border crimes, and bolster safety in the border regions.

Operational Preparedness Under Scrutiny

Aggarwal visited several Border Out Posts (BOPs) situated along the international border. He assessed the on-ground implementation of the border domination plan and reviewed overall operational preparedness to counter emerging threats.

Emphasising the need for maintaining peace and security, the ADG praised the efforts of BSF personnel in securing India’s frontiers. He also acknowledged the proactive initiatives taken by the Guwahati Frontier to control border-related crimes.

Call for Vigilance and Integrity

In his address to the field commanders and personnel, Aggarwal underlined the importance of vigilance and community safety. He urged the force to continue their dedicated efforts to maintain the integrity of the Indo-Bangladesh international border and ensure that the region remains crime-free.

The ADG’s visit comes at a crucial time as regional tensions pose heightened security concerns, demanding increased coordination and robust border management.
