BSF Clarifies Drone Incident in Murshidabad, Urges Public Not to Spread Rumours.webp

Kolkata, May 11 — Amid growing security concerns over drone incursions along India’s borders, the Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier has sought to allay public fears regarding a drone found in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. The force confirmed on Sunday that the device was a harmless, non-lethal photography drone with no payload capability.

The BSF emphasized that the drone recovered in Murshidabad should not be equated with recent drone activities reported along the north-western frontier, particularly from Pakistan. “It is a commercial drone, typically used for event photography, with no capability to carry any payload,” the BSF clarified in its official statement.

The paramilitary force described the drone as a small device, with an operational range of 400 to 500 metres, a flight time of approximately 15 to 20 minutes depending on battery usage, and equipped with an inbuilt 4K camera.

“This type of drone is often used by our photographers during events and functions. It has no load-carrying capacity and poses no threat,” the statement said.

The drone was recovered deep inside Indian territory and has since been handed over to Shamsheergunj police station. Authorities are currently trying to identify its operator.

Murshidabad, a district bordering Bangladesh, often finds itself in the spotlight due to its sensitive location. The BSF urged citizens not to jump to conclusions or spread unverified information that could lead to unnecessary panic.
