Buddhist monks from Sikkim begin journey to Kumbh Mela

Gangtok, Feb 3 (PTI): A delegation of 30 Buddhist monks from Sikkim set off on Monday for Prayagraj to participate in the grand Kumbh Mela, a significant religious gathering in India. The team also includes two officials from the state's Ecclesiastical Department, an official confirmed.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang flagged off the delegation, expressing his pride in their participation. He emphasized that the involvement of Buddhist monks in the Maha Kumbh Mela underscores Sikkim’s dedication to fostering interfaith harmony and showcasing its rich cultural heritage on a national stage.

The Kumbh Mela, known for drawing millions of devotees and ascetics from across the country, provides a unique platform for spiritual exchange and cultural representation. The participation of Sikkimese monks marks a significant step towards strengthening inter-religious dialogue and promoting the state’s diverse traditions.
