Bengaluru, Feb 5 (PTI) – A 37-year-old burglar from Maharashtra, accused of building a lavish Rs 3 crore bungalow for his girlfriend with proceeds from his criminal activities, was arrested on charges of stealing gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 14 lakh from a Bengaluru home.
Panchakshari Swamy, originally from Solapur, was apprehended after a detailed investigation into the theft that took place on January 9 at a house in Maruti Nagar, Bengaluru. Police were able to connect him to the crime using evidence from over 200 CCTV cameras in the area.
According to authorities, Swamy had been involved in various thefts across the country for nearly two decades. Despite being married with children, he led a double life, spending lavishly on women with the stolen money. His criminal activities, which began when he was just a minor in 2003, turned into a professional operation by 2009. He gained immense wealth through burglaries, robberies, and other thefts.
A senior police officer revealed that Swamy’s extravagant spending reached new heights around 2014-15 when he began a relationship with an actress. He allegedly built a Rs 3 crore bungalow for her in Kolkata, where he also gifted her a luxurious aquarium worth Rs 22 lakh. Further investigations indicated that Swamy had connections with other actresses as well.
With his arrest, police recovered 181 grams of gold biscuits, 33 grams of silver ornaments, and a firearm. They confirmed that Swamy generally operated alone, keeping a close watch on empty houses and carefully changing his clothes to avoid detection after each theft.
Swamy’s arrest marks the end of a long series of crimes that spanned across multiple states, showcasing a blend of sophisticated theft tactics and an extravagant lifestyle funded by stolen wealth.
