Community Outrage Over Desecration Sparks Protest and Police Action

Belagavi (Karnataka), May 13 — Tensions flared in Belagavi after three religious books were found burnt in a field on Monday morning, prompting immediate protests and a police investigation.

According to police, the incident occurred after unknown miscreants allegedly broke into an under-construction religious building on Sunday night. The books, which were kept on the ground floor of the premises where prayers are regularly held, were discovered missing by worshippers when they arrived on Monday morning. A search led to the charred remains being found about 200 meters away in a nearby field.

Following the discovery, community members gathered to protest, demanding swift action and the arrest of those responsible for the desecration.

In response, a peace meeting was convened with leaders from various communities. Participants collectively condemned the act and urged authorities to ensure communal harmony while swiftly bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang confirmed that a case has been registered at the Rural police station. “Investigation is ongoing, and dedicated teams have been formed to trace and arrest those involved,” he said.

According to the commissioner, the CCTV camera installed at the building had been removed for repairs on the same day the incident occurred.

Authorities have assured the public of a thorough probe and appealed for calm as investigations continue.
