Car used in Shiv Sena leader's murder found in Rajasthan; hunt intensified for three accused

Palghar, Feb 3 (PTI) – In a significant breakthrough in the murder case of Shiv Sena leader Ashok Dhodi, police have recovered the vehicle used in the crime from a village in Rajasthan. Authorities continue their search for three absconding suspects, a senior police official confirmed on Monday.

According to officials, two of the accused fled to Rajasthan in the car after committing the murder. Acting on a tip-off, a police team located the vehicle in a remote village and seized it on Sunday night.

Dhodi, who had been missing since January 20, was found dead in the trunk of his car at a quarry in Bhilad, Valsad district of Gujarat, on January 31. The vehicle had been submerged in a water-filled pit approximately 40-45 feet deep before being retrieved.

Police investigations suggest that seven individuals were involved in the murder. So far, four suspects have been arrested, while efforts are underway to track down the remaining three, including Dhodi’s own brother.

"We have left no stone unturned in this investigation and are working tirelessly to ensure all culprits are brought to justice," said a senior police official. Authorities have formed eight teams to expedite the probe.

Dhodi’s family members have met with District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, pressing for the immediate arrest of the primary accused. Following their appeal, Naik instructed District Superintendent of Police (SP) Balasaheb Patil to incorporate the family's statements into the investigation.

The bereaved family has demanded capital punishment for the perpetrators and called for government action against law enforcement officials who allegedly failed in their duty. They also claim that Dhodi’s brother was involved in the district’s liquor mafia and that the slain leader had repeatedly raised concerns about illicit liquor activities.

As the investigation intensifies, authorities are determined to bring all those responsible to justice.
