New Delhi, May 10 – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested Jeevan Lal Lavidiya, Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions) in Hyderabad, along with four others, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving a sum of Rs 70 lakh.
Lavidiya, a 2004-batch officer from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), is accused of demanding and accepting bribes while serving in his official capacity. The arrest followed inputs received by the CBI suggesting his involvement in corrupt activities, prompting the agency to register a First Information Report (FIR) against him.
Officials confirmed that Lavidiya and four associates were taken into custody as part of an ongoing probe. Further details regarding the identities of the other accused and the nature of the bribe are awaited.
The case has drawn attention to corruption within the tax administration, particularly in departments responsible for exemptions and regulatory clearances. The CBI is expected to release more information as the investigation progresses.
