Bhubaneswar, May 10

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Railway Protection Force (RPF) head constable in Odisha’s Sundergarh district for allegedly accepting a bribe in exchange for allowing a man to operate a shop on railway land.

The accused, Shambhu Prasad Singh, was posted at Bimalgarh and was caught red-handed while allegedly taking the bribe, the CBI said in a statement on Saturday.

According to the agency, the arrest followed a case registered on May 8 based on a complaint that two RPF personnel had demanded a bribe from a local man. The complainant had been running a dhaba-cum-barber shop on railway property at Barsuan and was allegedly asked to pay a bribe to continue operating.

Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and successfully apprehended Singh during the act of accepting the bribe.

Singh was presented before the special CBI court in Bhubaneswar, which remanded him to judicial custody until May 15.

Investigations are ongoing, and further action is expected as the case develops.
