Drone and Missile Strikes Push India-Pakistan Conflict to a Dangerous Edge
New Delhi, May 10 — As tensions continue to mount along the western front, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday to brief him on the rapidly escalating military confrontation with Pakistan. The meeting, held at Singh's residence, comes in the wake of aggressive drone and missile strikes launched by Pakistan and India’s retaliatory operations.According to defence sources, the CDS provided a detailed overview of the security situation. The update followed Pakistan’s failed attempt late Thursday night to target Indian military installations using between 300 and 400 Turkish-origin drones across 36 locations, ranging from Leh to Sir Creek.
The Indian Army, in a statement on Saturday morning, confirmed that Pakistan’s provocations have continued unabated, stating, “Pakistan's blatant escalation with drone strikes and other munitions continues along our western borders.”
High-Level Security Review Amid Cross-Border Strikes
In a high-level security meeting held on Friday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the overall defence preparedness with the nation’s top military leadership. Present at the briefing were General Anil Chauhan (CDS), Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.The session addressed every aspect of the evolving threat matrix, particularly Pakistan’s escalating attacks that included a missile strike in Punjab and assaults on medical facilities in Srinagar, Avantipura, and Udhampur, as confirmed by Colonel Sofiya Qureshi during a press conference. She was accompanied by Wing Commander Vyomika Singhand Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
"A befitting reply has been given to Pakistani actions," said Col Qureshi, stressing India’s firm stance on defending its territorial integrity.
Pakistan Moves Troops as India Remains on High Alert
Amid the spiraling tensions, Indian authorities noted that Pakistan has begun mobilising troops towards the border regions, heightening fears of a broader conflict. Reiterating India's unwavering resolve, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared on Thursday that “no limit will become an obstacle to protect India's sovereignty” and assured the public that the nation is fully prepared for any required response.The recent surge in hostilities began after India launched precision strikes early Wednesday on nine terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The action was in direct retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which had confirmed cross-border connections.
