Ceasefire Breach: Drone Intrusions and Blasts Rock Jammu and Kashmir

Drones shot down at multiple places in J-K as Pakistan violates bilateral understanding.webp

Multiple Drone Sightings Across J&K Hours After Ceasefire Announcement

Srinagar, May 10 – In a serious breach of the bilateral understanding to halt all military activity, drones from Pakistan were detected flying over several areas in Jammu and Kashmir late Saturday night, prompting swift action from Indian armed forces.

The violations occurred just hours after both nations publicly agreed to cease all hostilities on land, air, and sea. Despite the agreement, government sources confirmed that Pakistan violated the ceasefire within hours of its announcement.

Drones Shot Down, Explosions in Srinagar

A drone hovering near the Batwara area of Srinagar — close to a sensitive army installation — was intercepted and brought down, leading to a series of loud blasts that shook the city post-sundown. Security agencies employed anti-drone air defence systems to neutralize the threat.

Blasts were reported approximately every 15 minutes, illuminating the night sky with flares and causing alarm among residents.

Omar Abdullah Questions Ceasefire Validity

Reacting sharply to the unfolding events, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah questioned the credibility of the ceasefire announcement.

“This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” he posted on social media platform X. He followed up with another post, saying, “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!”

Drone Activity Spotted in Multiple Locations

According to officials, a drone was also detected over Baramulla in north Kashmir around 8:20 PM and was promptly destroyed using an anti-drone mechanism. Additional drone sightings were reported over high ground in Anantnag, as well as in Verinag (Anantnag district), Bandipora, and Safapora.

Security forces are continuing their surveillance and response operations. Further details about the intrusions and damage assessments are awaited.

Escalation Despite Peace Accord

Saturday evening’s ceasefire agreement had raised hopes of de-escalation following days of cross-border tension. However, the repeated drone intrusions and explosions in key locations across Jammu and Kashmir have cast a shadow over the peace initiative, indicating that tensions remain high on the ground.
