In Odisha, normal life has been disrupted in several parts of the state today due to a nationwide strike called by central trade unions in protest against the policies of the Union Government. The strike affected transport, markets, and educational institutions across many districts. Protesters also staged road blockades at various locations, including National Highways, leading to traffic congestion. Rail services have also been disrupted at many places, while educational institutions remained closed in various districts.
In Bimlagarh, railway tracks were blocked, while at the Balasore railway station, agitators stopped the Bangiriposi-Puri Express. However, emergency services, including ambulance operations, remained unaffected. The trade unions have alleged that recent labour and employment-related reforms are anti-worker and have demanded the repeal of the four labour codes. The Congress and Biju Janata Dal have supported the call for the strike.
