Centre Applauds Punjab’s Agricultural Advancements, Raises AIF Funding to ₹7,050 Crore

Chandigarh, February 28: Punjab’s remarkable progress in enhancing agricultural infrastructure has been acknowledged by the Central government, leading to an increase in the state's financing facility under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) to ₹7,050 crore. This announcement was made by Punjab’s Horticulture Minister, Mohinder Bhagat, on Friday.

Bhagat highlighted that the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has revised Punjab’s AIF allocation from ₹4,713 crore to ₹7,050 crore, recognizing the state’s outstanding performance in implementing the scheme. “The increased allocation is a testament to Punjab’s commitment to empowering farmers,” Bhagat stated, expressing gratitude for the Centre’s recognition.

The minister emphasized that the additional funds will accelerate efforts to modernize agricultural infrastructure, focusing on the development of cold storage facilities, warehouses, processing units, and value-addition initiatives.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab continues to lead in agricultural reforms, setting a benchmark for other states, Bhagat said. He noted that Punjab has emerged as a frontrunner in the effective execution of the AIF scheme, with multiple projects already reshaping the agricultural landscape. These initiatives aim to increase farmers’ income and strengthen the overall agricultural ecosystem in the state.

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare commended Punjab for its leadership in AIF implementation, stating that the state has consistently performed well and secured a top position nationwide in agricultural infrastructure project approvals.

Bhagat further detailed that Punjab’s Horticulture Department serves as the State Nodal Agency for executing the AIF scheme, ensuring efficient utilization of funds to drive agricultural development.

With this increased financial backing, Punjab is poised to further advance its agricultural infrastructure, reinforcing its position as a leader in agricultural innovation and sustainability.
