Centre's claim of normalcy exposed by terror incidents in J&K: Tariq Hameed Karra

Srinagar, February 4 (PTI) – Tariq Hameed Karra, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, sharply criticized the Centre's assertion that normalcy has returned to the region, pointing to the continued terror incidents as evidence to the contrary.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar on Tuesday, Karra said, "The claims made by the Government of India regarding the security situation here in Kashmir are not accurate. The reality on the ground is in stark contrast to the government’s narrative." He emphasized that violence has continued to plague not only Kashmir but also Jammu, further undermining the Centre's claims.

Karra urged the government to abandon its "incorrect narrative" that everything is fine in the region. "It is time for the government to reflect seriously on how to address the ongoing situation," he said, calling for greater transparency. He also suggested that the government should be more forthcoming with the public about the true state of affairs and outline its strategy for resolving the ongoing issues.

In response to a question about the direction taken by the National Conference (NC) government in the region, Karra remarked, "Our goal has always been to keep the BJP out of the corridors of power, and we have succeeded in achieving that."

This statement comes amid ongoing security concerns and sporadic terrorist activities in the region, challenging the government's assertions of stability post-Article 370 abrogation.
