Credential Ceremony for Foreign Envoys at Rashtrapati Bhavan Deferred Due to Scheduling Issues

New Delhi, May 15 — A credential presentation ceremony scheduled for Thursday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, where newly-appointed foreign envoys were to present their credentials to President Droupadi Murmu formally, has been deferred, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced.

The MEA cited scheduling issues as the reason for postponing the event, without offering a new date or further details.

While the ministry did not list the diplomats' names, it is understood that the ambassadors of Turkiye, Thailand, Costa Rica, and St Kitts, as well as the High Commissioner of Bangladesh, were slated to participate in the formal ceremony.

Credential presentations are a routine diplomatic protocol marking the official start of an envoy's tenure in the host country. These ceremonies typically occur at the Presidential residence in the presence of senior officials.

The event's deferment comes amid heightened scrutiny of Turkiye's diplomatic stance in India, particularly following Ankara's repeated support for Pakistan during past military tensions between the two South Asian neighbours.

No further details were shared regarding the rescheduling or the official reason beyond scheduling conflicts.
