Raipur, Feb 2 (PTI) – The opposition Congress in Chhattisgarh has accused the ruling BJP of failing to meet public expectations in its first year of governance, a charge swiftly dismissed by the state government.
At a press conference in Raipur on Sunday, state Congress president Deepak Baij released a “chargesheet” listing grievances against the Vishnu Deo Sai-led BJP government. Baij claimed that every section of society is disillusioned with the administration, alleging corruption, poor governance, and policy failures.
He particularly criticized the government's handling of reservations in local bodies, stating that the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community is angered by the "faulty" reservation policy. Farmers too feel betrayed, he alleged, as they have not received the promised lump sum payment of ₹3,100 along with an additional ₹112 increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy, bringing the total to ₹3,212 per quintal.
The Congress leader also highlighted incidents of violence in Kabirdham and Balodabazar-Bhatapara districts last year and pointed to alleged irregularities in recruitment exams. He further claimed that law and order in the state had collapsed and that social security pensions, including old-age and widow pensions, had been halted, leaving beneficiaries in distress.
Responding to the allegations, Chhattisgarh Finance Minister OP Choudhary dismissed the Congress’ charges as baseless. He countered that if Congress were to compile a chargesheet on its own tenure from 2018 to 2023, it would be “bigger than a novel.”
“They are criticizing our one-year-old government, but making allegations is their job. The progress made in the past year is visible across Chhattisgarh, and people will continue to support us,” Choudhary asserted.
With both parties trading barbs, the political temperature in the state is set to rise as they gear up for future electoral battles.
