Raipur, March 4: Chhattisgarh Congress leaders staged a protest outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Raipur on Monday, accusing the agency of vindictive actions against a state party functionary.
Led by Chhattisgarh Congress chief Deepak Baij, party members surrounded the ED office, voicing their opposition to what they described as harassment tactics. The protest stemmed from the recent questioning of Malkit Singh Gaidu, the state unit's in-charge general secretary, by the ED.
According to Baij, Gaidu was detained for hours last week when he visited the ED office to provide details regarding the construction of a Congress office in Sukma district. Baij alleged that the ED’s inquiries extended beyond official matters, delving into Gaidu’s personal and family properties, which he said indicated an intention to harass.
"The Congress is fully prepared to cooperate with the ED in its investigation. However, if the agency misbehaves with our leaders, we will give a befitting reply," Baij warned.
Further, Baij accused the ED of functioning as an "affiliate organization" of the BJP, stating that such actions were unacceptable.
The protest was attended by senior Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Charan Das Mahant, who addressed the gathering and criticized the alleged misuse of investigative agencies.
This demonstration underscores the escalating political tensions between the Congress and the ruling BJP, as the ED continues its investigations in Chhattisgarh.
