An intense encounter erupted between security personnel and Naxalites on Saturday morning in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police sources confirmed.
The gunbattle began in a dense forest under the jurisdiction of the Kistaram police station, where security forces were conducting an anti-Naxalite operation. According to police officials, a joint team comprising personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA)—a specialized unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)—launched the operation late on Friday night, acting upon intelligence inputs regarding the presence of Maoists in the area.
Officials stated that the exchange of gunfire was intermittent and ongoing, as security personnel continued to engage the insurgents. Authorities have not yet disclosed any casualties or injuries from either side.
Further details are awaited as the situation continues to unfold.
