Raipur, May 10
In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday flagged off a hydrogen-fuelled truck, calling it a revolutionary initiative to steer the state and the nation toward a green energy future.Speaking at the launch event in Raipur, the chief minister emphasized that the project aligns with India's commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. "The launch of this hydrogen-powered truck marks a major milestone in our efforts to promote clean energy while maintaining industrial growth," he said.
A Step Towards Zero Emission Transport
The truck, developed through a collaboration between the Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited and Adani Natural Resources, represents a fusion of Indian and international engineering expertise. Officials stated that the vehicle runs on a hydrogen fuel cell battery system and is designed specifically for cargo transportation. Each truck will be fitted with three hydrogen tanks and is capable of carrying up to 40 tonnes of cargo over a distance of 200 kilometers. With performance on par with traditional diesel trucks, these vehicles emit only water vapor and hot air, significantly reducing environmental pollution and noise levels.
Green Energy and Industrial Balance
Highlighting the broader impact of the initiative, CM Sai noted that it reflects the government’s balanced approach toward environmental protection and economic development. He stressed that hydrogen fuel technology could play a key role in reshaping India’s industrial logistics landscape.Officials described the project as a critical step in Chhattisgarh’s roadmap to contribute to national sustainability goals while fostering innovation in clean transportation.
The launch of the hydrogen-fuelled truck underscores a growing momentum in India's transition to green energy, positioning Chhattisgarh as a proactive player in the country’s environmental commitments.
