China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan Amid India-Pakistan Ceasefire

China says will continue to stand by Pak in upholding its ‘sovereignty, territorial integrity’.webp

Islamabad, May 10 – In the wake of a rapidly shifting regional landscape, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China's steadfast support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during a phone conversation with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday.

According to a statement released by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the Chinese foreign minister expressed appreciation for Islamabad’s measured response amid mounting tensions and assured continued support as an “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partner and iron-clad friend.”

Wang Yi emphasized, “China will continue to stand firmly by Pakistan in upholding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence,” a statement that underscored the enduring bilateral alliance between the two countries.

During their conversation, Dar briefed Wang Yi on the recent developments in the region, particularly the evolving security situation. Wang acknowledged Pakistan’s restraint and lauded its responsible approach under challenging circumstances.

Regional Diplomacy in Motion

Deputy Prime Minister Dar also held separate telephonic discussions with key regional allies. He spoke with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, who welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan.

In another diplomatic exchange, Dar conversed with Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, updating him on the current scenario in South Asia.

Ceasefire Announced Following US Mediation

The flurry of diplomatic engagements followed a significant announcement earlier in the day by US President Donald Trump. Trump revealed that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire, crediting US-mediated talks for the breakthrough.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment, describing the truce as a “US-brokered ceasefire” and praising the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He commended their “wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”

The ceasefire came just hours after both nations launched military strikes targeting each other’s facilities, marking a dangerous escalation in hostilities.

As the region cautiously steps back from the brink, diplomatic channels continue to remain active in shaping the path forward.
