Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today described the Union Budget 2026-27 as historic and futuristic, and stated that it would bring significant change to the nation, as well as to the Northeastern region. Speaking to the media in Guwahati today, the Union Minister said that the Union Budget has made a record financial allocation aimed at transforming Assam and the entire Northeast into a major growth engine. The Union Minister further informed that the Union Government will develop a corridor in Assam for critical and rare earth minerals, as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi prioritizes the development of Assam and other northeastern states. He said that the PM considers the North East as the center and engine of India’s development and growth. The Union Minister also said that the Budget has been framed keeping in mind villages, the poor, farmers, youth and women. He said that poverty has been steadily declining due to schemes being implemented under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, and that this Union Budget is extremely important from the perspective of making the poor self-reliant. The Union Minister said that the Rural Development Ministry's budget has been increased by 21 per cent this year.
