Reopens Mark First Visit to Jammu & Kashmir After India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Srinagar, May 15 — Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Thursday visited Jammu and Kashmir to assess security and infrastructure at the region's key airports following their reopening after a temporary shutdown triggered by the recent conflict between India and Pakistan.

Naidu's visit marks his first to the Union Territory since tensions escalated between the two countries. Both Srinagar and Jammu airports, among several others across northern and western India, had been temporarily closed for civilian air traffic due to heightened security concerns. Civilian operations resumed earlier this week following a ceasefire agreement between the two nations.

Upon arrival at Srinagar airport in the morning, the minister held a comprehensive review meeting with security agencies and key stakeholders. Discussions centered around the current security arrangements, passenger services, and infrastructure enhancement at the airport.

Following his engagements in Srinagar, Naidu proceeded to Jammu airport for a similar review of its operations and security framework.

During his visit, the minister also made a stop at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, a symbolic city center, as part of his outreach.

Enhanced security protocols had been implemented at airports across the region after the conflict. At least 32 airports were affected by the shutdown. The recent understanding between India and Pakistan to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea has led to a gradual normalization of air travel and operations.
