Airports in Kutch, Rajkot, Jamnagar, and Other Regions Reopen for Civilian Operations
Ahmedabad, May 12 – Civilian flight operations resumed on Monday at seven airports across Gujarat, including three located in the border district of Kutch, following a temporary suspension triggered by recent military tensions with Pakistan. The reopened airports include the international airport at Rajkot and domestic terminals at Porbandar, Jamnagar, Keshod (in Junagadh district), Bhuj, Mundra, and Kandla (in Kutch district). These facilities had been shut for civilian aircraft on May 9 amid heightened security concerns.
A senior official at Rajkot airport confirmed that operations recommenced from 10:20 am on Monday. “Following the Airport Authority of India's announcement, Bhuj, Mundra, and Kandla airports in Kutch are now open,” said Navneet Kumar Gupta, Director of Bhuj Airport. D K Singh, Director of Jamnagar Airport, also verified the reopening.
The closures on May 9 were part of a broader precautionary measure that saw 32 airports across northern and western India temporarily suspended for civilian use.
The resumption of services follows the recent agreement between India and Pakistan on Saturday to cease all forms of military action, including firings on land, air, and sea, with immediate effect.
This development marks a significant de-escalation in regional tensions and paves the way for restoring normalcy in civil aviation and other public services across affected areas.
