Mumbai, March 1: In a strategic move ahead of the crucial Maharashtra Assembly budget session starting March 3, the Congress party today announced significant appointments to strengthen its leadership in the legislature.

Senior Mumbai Congress leader and four-time MLA Amin Patel has been appointed as the party's Deputy Leader in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Patel represents the Mumbadevi constituency in Mumbai and brings extensive legislative experience to his new role.

In addition, Amit Deshmukh has been named as the party's Chief Whip in the Assembly. Supporting him as whips will be Shirish Naik and Sanjay Meshram. Vishwanath Kadam has been entrusted with the role of Secretary of the Congress legislative group.

Meanwhile, in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Congress has designated Satej Patil as the Group Leader. Abhijit Vanjari will serve as the Chief Whip, supported by Rajesh Rathod, who has been appointed as Whip.

These leadership changes come at a challenging time for the Congress, which currently holds only 16 seats—its lowest-ever representation—in the Maharashtra Assembly. In the state legislative council, the party has eight members.

Congress has previously announced Vijay Wadettiwar as its legislative party leader in the assembly.

The forthcoming budget session, slated to commence on March 3, is set to run for three weeks, providing the Congress with an opportunity to present a cohesive opposition strategy following these new appointments.
