New Delhi, May 10 – The Congress party on Saturday strongly criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for accusing the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of being "passive" in its response to terror attacks. Amid heightened tensions with Pakistan, the Congress questioned whether it was appropriate to play politics instead of fostering national unity.

The BJP had earlier taken to social media platform X to contrast the current government's stance with that of the previous UPA regime, stating:
"The message to the enemies is loud and clear. Don't mess with us! Unlike the UPA regime's passivity, New India has no patience for futile peace talks."
The party also shared a video montage implying that terror attacks under the UPA rule were often followed by diplomatic talks, a trend it claimed has been reversed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In response, Congress’s head of media and publicity, Pawan Khera, hit back at the BJP’s narrative, calling for clarity and responsibility during a time of national security concerns.
"So do we have to do politics now? Is it time to do politics? Doesn't the government need the support of the opposition?" Khera posted in Hindi on X, tagging the BJP's message.
"Do we not have to give a message of unity now? The government and BJP should clarify."

The opposition party's remarks come as calls for political solidarity grow louder in light of the recent escalation in military actions between India and Pakistan. Congress emphasized that this is a time to project strength through unity rather than political one-upmanship.
