Patna, Feb 3 (PTI): Ayaan Zahid Khan, the 19-year-old son of senior Congress leader and MLA Shakeel Ahmed Khan, was found dead at his father’s official residence in Patna on Monday. Authorities discovered his body hanging from a ceiling fan in the Sachiwalaya area, according to a senior police officer.
Shakeel Ahmed Khan, who represents the Kadwa assembly seat in Katihar district, was not in Bihar at the time of the incident. Upon receiving the news, he rushed back to Patna around 1 pm.
Speaking on the matter, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awkash Kumar confirmed that forensic experts and senior officials had reached the scene to collect scientific evidence. "The matter is being investigated from all angles," he said, adding that the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Sachiwalaya-1 Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anu Kumari stated that authorities were alerted around 9 am, after which a team promptly arrived at the scene. "Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, but no suicide note has been recovered," she said.
Police sources revealed that Ayaan’s mobile phone has been seized, and his call records are being analyzed. Investigators are also questioning some of his friends for further insights.
Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar visited the site and issued directives for a thorough investigation.
Ayaan’s friend Umair Khan expressed disbelief over the tragedy. "He was very cheerful, friendly with everyone, and excelled in studies. He had scored 95 percent in his pre-board exams. I never saw him in distress," he said.
Following the incident, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain visited the Congress leader’s residence to offer condolences to the grieving family. Several other Bihar politicians also paid their respects.
Expressing sorrow over the incident, Bihar Congress chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh wrote on X, "I am shocked by the news of the sudden death of Ayaan Khan, son of Shakeel Ahmed Khan. Condolences… May God give strength to his family in this hour of grief and grant peace to the departed soul. Om Shanti."
