New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) – The discovery of a missing Dalit woman’s mutilated body in a desolate canal in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya has sparked outrage, with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra strongly criticizing the ruling BJP government over alleged police inaction.
The 22-year-old woman, who had been missing for three days, was found unclothed and lifeless near her village. According to her family, the body bore deep wounds, fractures, and was missing its eyes, reinforcing their belief that she was brutally murdered.
"If the administration had listened to the family's cries for help, perhaps this young woman could have been saved," Gandhi wrote. He further alleged that the BJP’s anti-Bahujan governance in Uttar Pradesh had led to a surge in atrocities, injustices, and murders of Dalits.
He demanded that the state government swiftly investigate the case, ensure severe punishment for the culprits, and take strict action against negligent police officials. "And please, do not harass the victim's family as usual," he added, urging authorities to deliver justice.
"A Dalit girl, who had gone to listen to a Bhagwat Katha in Ayodhya, was subjected to such cruelty that it sends chills down the spine of any human being," she said.
Blaming the BJP for fostering "Jungle Raj," she accused the UP government of turning a blind eye to the suffering of Dalits, tribals, backward classes, and the poor. She demanded immediate action against both the perpetrators and the police officers responsible for inaction.
Her brother-in-law found her body tied with ropes in a small canal, just 500 meters from their village. Villagers, upon retrieving her remains, noticed that one of her legs was fractured, and her body was covered in deep cuts.
