Congress Stages Protest in Latur Against Maharashtra Government’s Farmer Policies

Latur, March 4: The Congress party staged a protest in Latur, Maharashtra, voicing strong opposition to the state government’s handling of farmers' issues. Led by Latur MP Dr. Shivaji Kalge, the protest took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, where party members symbolically presented their memorandum of demands to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, alleging that the administration has been unresponsive to the grievances of cultivators.

The demonstration, held on Monday, highlighted key demands, including full loan waivers for farmers, uninterrupted daytime electricity supply, removal of GST on agricultural equipment, and the establishment of a soybean research center in Latur.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the government's stance, Kalge criticized the administration for its "lack of seriousness" in addressing agrarian distress. Instead of formally submitting their memorandum to the authorities, the Congress leaders placed it before the statue of the Maratha warrior king as a symbolic gesture of protest.

The demonstration underscores the mounting pressure on the Maharashtra government to take immediate steps to support farmers, who have been facing challenges ranging from financial burdens to inadequate infrastructure support.
