Cop, aide held for demanding bribe of Rs 50,000 in Thane district

Thane, March 1 – A police constable and his accomplice have been arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 to permit the sale of narcotics in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official reported on Saturday.

According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the accused constable, identified as Pandurang Sagle (34) from Tulinj police station, allegedly sought a monthly bribe of ₹50,000 from a complainant in exchange for allowing the sale of mephedrone.

Following a complaint, the Thane ACB set up a trap and apprehended Sagle’s aide while accepting the bribe on his behalf on Friday. Both individuals were taken into custody, confirmed ACB Inspector Vijay Kawle.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
