New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – The national capital has witnessed a notable decline in crime rates across several categories in January 2025 compared to the same period in the previous two years, according to data released by the Delhi Police.
Attempt-to-murder cases saw a significant drop, with 50 cases reported in January 2025, down from 71 in 2024 and 59 in 2023. Similarly, incidents of robbery decreased to 103 cases in 2025, compared to 146 in 2024 and 111 in 2023.
Cases of snatching also saw a sharp decline, with 369 incidents reported in January 2025, significantly lower than the 623 cases in 2024 and 558 in 2023.
Crimes against women showed a downward trend as well. Reported cases of rape and those under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act fell to 101 in January 2025, a reduction from 134 in 2024 and 140 in 2023. Molestation cases also dropped to 110 in 2025 from 135 in 2024 and 163 in 2023, while eve-teasing incidents were recorded at 16 cases, compared to 24 in 2024 and 37 in 2023.
Property-related crimes such as burglary also saw a decline, with 566 cases reported in January 2025, slightly lower than 619 cases recorded in both 2024 and 2023. The number of abduction cases fell to nine in January 2025, a significant decrease from 18 cases in both 2024 and 2023.
Fatal road accidents also saw a marginal decline, with 87 cases reported in January 2025, compared to 93 in 2024 and 94 in 2023.
A senior Delhi Police officer credited the reduction in crime to enhanced surveillance, community awareness initiatives, and technological interventions. "The decline in most crime categories reflects the impact of increased patrolling, technology-driven policing solutions, and stricter enforcement of laws," the officer stated.
The report highlights the effectiveness of Delhi Police's ongoing crime prevention strategies, aiming to ensure public safety and order in the capital.
