Mumbai, May 10 — In a disturbing escalation of the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan, Maharashtra Cyber officials have revealed that state-sponsored entities from across the border are intensifying a campaign of unconventional cyber warfare against Indian government digital infrastructure.
According to a statement released on Saturday, the cybercrime detection agency has observed sustained cyberattacks on critical infrastructure systems and government websites since the launch of Operation Sindoor. The primary aim appears to be the disruption of administrative operations and the spread of misinformation to destabilize public trust.
Rise in Cyber Intrusions Following Operation Sindoor
Officials said the wave of attacks includes Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assaults and digital defacement campaigns, both designed to cripple essential public services and compromise the credibility of government platforms. These actions mark a shift in tactics, with hostile cyber actors attempting to wage a digital form of aggression in tandem with conventional warfare. The Maharashtra Cyber agency further disclosed that attackers are also distributing malware-infected files to target individual users, raising concerns about a broader strategy to compromise civilian systems and data.
Advisory and Countermeasures in Place
The cyber agency has been actively monitoring threat vectors, issuing public advisories, and alerting affected institutions. Swift action has enabled timely countermeasures to be deployed, reducing the potential impact of these cyber offensives.Citizens are being urged to exercise caution when interacting with digital content, especially in the current volatile environment.
Over 1 Million Attacks Traced Post Pahalgam Attack
In a significant revelation, a senior Maharashtra Cyber official earlier stated that more than 10 lakh cyber attacks have been recorded in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. These attacks are reportedly traced to hacking groups based in Pakistan, as well as actors from Middle Eastern countries and Morocco. As India braces for further digital onslaughts, cybersecurity agencies are ramping up defense mechanisms to shield both government and civilian digital assets.
