Ranchi, May 15 – A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer was killed and another seriously injured after being struck by lightning during an operation in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district late Thursday night.
The tragic incident occurred around 10:30 PM in Keriburu village, a dense jungle area where the CRPF was carrying out an operation. According to officials, the lightning strike claimed the life of M Prabo Singh, a second-in-command officer of the 26th battalion.
Assistant Commandant S.K. Mandal sustained serious injuries in the incident and was immediately admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Both officers were leading the operation team in the forest when the lightning struck, highlighting the dangers security personnel face from adversaries and extreme weather conditions.
Authorities are continuing the operation in the region while ensuring the safety of the remaining personnel on the ground.
