Debt-Ridden Farmer Ends Life in Muzaffarnagar Over Financial Distress

Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh – A 50-year-old farmer, burdened by mounting debt, allegedly took his own life by shooting himself in the Jhinjhana area, police reported on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Azad, was discovered in his field in Purmali village on Tuesday. According to Circle Officer Shyam Singh, authorities have sent his body for post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Family members revealed that Azad had been under severe financial stress after borrowing over ₹6 lakh from a bank and a cooperative society to cover medical expenses for his wife. His brother, Dharmendra, stated that the inability to repay the loan pushed him into extreme distress, ultimately leading to his tragic decision.

Police have registered a case and launched an inquiry into the matter.
