The case was heard by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal, who on Monday concluded arguments on the matter.
Jain has alleged that Swaraj made defamatory remarks against him during a televised interview on October 5, 2023. According to the complaint, the statements were broadcast to millions of viewers and contained false claims about a raid on Jain’s residence.
The complaint states that Swaraj falsely claimed that law enforcement agencies recovered Rs 3 crore in cash, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins from Jain’s house during raids in October 2023. Jain argues that these statements were made with the intention of damaging his reputation and gaining political mileage.
Furthermore, the complaint highlights that Swaraj referred to Jain as "corrupt" and a "fraud," further tarnishing his image.
The court will now determine whether to proceed with the defamation case when it issues its ruling on February 13.
