New solar initiative expected to save Rs 15 lakh monthly and cut carbon emissions.
New Delhi, May 12—In a significant push towards renewable energy adoption, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena laid the foundation stone for a 500 kilowatt (kW) solar power plant at the Delhi Assembly on Monday. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, and other senior leaders and officials attended the ceremony.Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood, PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, and several MLAs also marked their presence at the event held at the Assembly premises.
According to a statement from the Assembly secretariat, the new solar installation will replace the existing 200 kW rooftop system, which is currently being dismantled. Once completed, the upgraded 500 kW capacity will be sufficient to power the entire Assembly complex through solar energy.
The project is set for completion within 45 days and is projected to eliminate the Delhi Assembly's electricity bills, resulting in estimated savings of around Rs 15 lakh per month. The transition to solar power will also contribute to a substantial reduction in the Assembly's carbon footprint.
Officials highlighted that the initiative underscores the government's commitment to sustainability and clean energy, positioning the Delhi Assembly as a model for green governance.
