New Delhi, Feb 26: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is set to nominate BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht for the position of deputy speaker in the Delhi Assembly on February 27, marking the third day of the ongoing session. With no other candidates contesting, Bisht's election is expected to be a mere formality.

According to the Delhi Assembly Speaker's office, two separate motions will be introduced to formalize Bisht’s appointment. The first motion will be moved by CM Gupta and seconded by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, while the second will be proposed by MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and backed by Gajender Singh Yadav.

Bisht, a seasoned BJP leader and six-time MLA, recently secured victory from the Mustafabad assembly seat in the February 5 elections, defeating AAP candidate Adeel Ahmad Khan by a margin of over 17,000 votes. Before this, he represented Karawal Nagar multiple times, first winning the seat in 1988 and serving until 2015, with a comeback victory in 2020.

Apart from the deputy speaker’s election, the session will also include discussions under Rule 280, enabling members to raise pertinent issues with the Chair’s permission. Additionally, deliberations will continue on the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report regarding the regulation and supply of liquor in Delhi, which CM Gupta had tabled in the House on February 25.
