New Delhi, March 1 – A Delhi court has permitted the withdrawal of a case against former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) vice president Shehla Rashid Shora concerning her tweets about the Indian Army, police sources confirmed.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh issued the order on February 27, following an application by the prosecution. The application cited that Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena had withdrawn his sanction for Shora’s prosecution.

LG Withdraws Sanction on Screening Committee's Advice

According to the prosecution, the Lieutenant Governor’s decision was based on a Screening Committee's recommendation. The order stated, “Lt. Governor, Delhi, has approved the recommendation of the Screening Committee.” The LG granted this approval on December 23, 2024.

Case Stemmed from 2019 Tweets

Shora was booked under sections related to promoting enmity between different groups and acts prejudicial to harmony over her tweets dated August 18, 2019. The tweets had accused the Indian Army of entering houses and torturing locals in Kashmir. However, the Army had swiftly dismissed the allegations as baseless.

With the LG’s decision and the court’s approval, the legal proceedings against Shora in this matter have now been officially withdrawn.
